Apandacitis was created by Sumeet Mohan, who was inspired by his own trip to the hospital when he was younger. As a teenager, Sumeet was admitted to hospital with Appendicitis and this left him wondering how a child would understand such an experience. This curiosity eventually lead to the creation of Apandacitis.​

Sumeet's background is perhaps unusual for a children's author/illustrator, but has provided him with a solid medical understanding of the themes explored in Apandacitis. As such, Sumeet holds a BSc in Biomedical Science, from The University of Warwick, and a Master's degree in Bioscience Enterprise, from The University of Cambridge.
